Schoola is the creation of Stacey Boyd—parent, former teacher and school
principal. In 1997, she built an inner city charter school from the ground up. A
year later it was one of the highest performing middle schools in Boston. Stacey
saw firsthand how children who struggled in math could come alive in music
class. How art, physical education and foreign language could have a profound
effect on students. She also saw how hard it was to get funds to support these
programs. And how easy it was for the programs to get cut.
Dedicated to putting paintbrushes, books, baseballs and violins back into the
hands of children, Stacey launched Schoola in the 2012/2013 school year. A few
innovative schools took the call to run a clothing drive during the last (and
busiest) week of school. Parents sent in their gently used children's clothing.
We listed the clothes on our site at amazing prices. And schools received
proceeds from every item sold—money that funds all those programs so critical to
the success of our kids. A win for all.
Today, we’re 3,000 schools strong. Schoola brings new paints to art classes,
new instruments to the orchestra, new books for the libraries. Quality clothes
get a second life. Parents help parents. Schools help schools. Schoola makes all
this happen by giving children the tools they need to succeed.
STEM Education Summer School Course Offering
Academy for Business & Technology Elementary School is hosting a new STEM program this summer that we are very excited about! The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) modules that the Academy chose for the students this summer are bulleted below! In addition to these fun and engaging programs the students will also participate
in a computer class that embraces their gaps of instruction in both English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The following modules will be offered for students this summer:
· Money Math: Investigating the relationships between fractions, decimals and
percent through the real-world applications of money. (Grades 1-5)
· Superhero Science: Experimenting with and developing the designs and materials that
make up superhero powers and uniforms-for example Iron Man, Storm, Spiderman, and
Wolverine. (Grades 1-2)
· Fashion Engineering & Design: Designing and developing new fashions using the most
modern engineering and technology standards in the fashion industry. (Grades 3-5)
· Science of Video Games: Investigating the creation and function of popular video games like
Mindcraft and Angry Birds. (Grades 1-5)
· STEM Sports: Investigating the physics behind various athletic activities such as time,
measurement, metric conversions, forces, and potential and kinetic energy. (Grades 1-5)
· STEM Movie Production: Using the latest technology and software to produce videos, from
writing the scripts, designing the storyboards, recording the video, and editing the film,
participants will learn techniques for producing high quality movies. (Grades 1-5)
