WriteSteps
At the start of the 2008-09 school year, the Academy for Business & Technology Elementary School adopted and implemented the WriteSteps program. Teaching writing and meeting both the Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE) and the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) requirements can be a challenge! WriteSteps was created to assist the teacher in using the most current techniques and strategies to meet the Grade Level Content Expectations. With the WriteSteps DVDs, you first watch the classroom lesson and the next day you use the organized, user-friendly lesson materials to replicate the writing lesson in your own classroom! It is that easy!
You can read books or attend workshops about how to teach writing, but there is no substitute for seeing master teachers model lessons with real kids in real classrooms!
These GLCE writing lessons follow strategies designed to improve teaching and learning that will ultimately reflect in increased English Language Arts (ELA) MEAP scores.
The WriteSteps materials strongly reinforce reading and writing skills that are assessed on the grades 3-8 ELA MEAP test.

The WriteSteps lessons have been developed and refined based on a writing consultant’s experience as a writing coach in more than 350 Michigan classrooms! WriteSteps lessons have been tested, refined and proven in Michigan classrooms with different teaching styles, various class sizes and socioeconomic levels.
ABTE was pleased and privileged to have Suzanne Klein, the author and developer of the WriteSteps program, as a Writing Consultant. She worked with our students and teachers on a monthly basis to model writing instruction and to refine the way teachers help students become better writers. This had a positive impact on not only the MEAP writing scores, but on student writing proficiency in all areas.
