Special Classes
In addition to the Kent County Collaborative Core Curriculum (KC4) which covers the core subject areas (math, English language arts, science and social studies), a full complement of academic programming including instruction in foreign language, physical education, health and art are provided.
Foreign Language InstructionThe Academy for Business & Technology elementary school is pleased to offer foreign language study to all students, grades K-5. For the last few years, French has been the language of instruction. While the emphasis is placed on basic conversational skills, students are also taught vocabulary, syntax and grammar.
Art Class
All students K-5 have Art class once or twice per week. Students are taught the basic aspects of art, including art history, and have numerous opportunities during each marking period to showcase their artistic skills. Student artwork is on display throughout the school.
| Health & Physical Education
Students have classes in Physical Education 1-2 times per week and Health intruction once per week as part of a well-rounded, quality education program. ABTE's full-time P.E. teacher uses the Michigan Model of Health & Physical Education framework in order to cover the grade-appropriate skills that students need in order to lead healthy and active lives -- and to have fun while doing it!
ABTE has also been an annual participant in the Jump Rope For Heart Program, by collecting pledges and donations for the American Heart Association to aid in their fight against heart disease. |
