Dr. Paul Merritt, school leader
A career educator, Dr. Paul Merritt has a strong and progressive career in educational leadership and instruction. He brings to The Academy for Business & Technology vast knowledge and experience in the fields of mathematics, business, science and technology. His passion for education and learning shines through each day as he touches the lives of his students, inspiring and leading them to academic achievement.
Dr. Merritt holds a masters degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of Michigan, with focuses in both curriculum and instruction. He is a certified teacher at both the elementary and secondary levels. Dr. Merritt has held positions at the collegiate, secondary and elementary education levels including instructor and adjunct instructor of mathematics, director of student support services, liberal arts director for instruction and research, dean of liberal arts and sciences and dean of instruction. Dr. Merritt was instrumental in the development of corporate education and training programs with Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, as well as college credit courses in Detroit high schools for talented juniors and seniors.
Dr. Merritt is a published author of several mathematics texts and has extensive experience in curriculum, professional development and evaluation.
