Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
ABTE has been on the forefront of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) integration in Wayne County since 2005. Thanks to a $5,000 start-up grant from Wayne RESA, the entire school participates in a point system that rewards good citizenship and teaches core democratic values: Honesty, Integrity, Courtesy, Cooperation and Respect. Each classroom teacher includes the Card System into their class management scheme: students begin on GREEN each day; misbehaviors or actions that go against the class or school code of appropriate conduct results in the student flipping their card to YELLOW; subsequent misbehaviors result in their card being flipped to RED (which prompts an Office Disciplinary Referral being written).
Students receive 1 point for each day that they remain on GREEN. Individual behavior plans are developed for some students and they are rewarded for proper behavior modifications and improvement in conduct. At the end of each month, students can redeem their points for prizes at the PBS Store!
