Thank you to all the parents who came out to the ABTE Muffins with Moms, Donuts with Dads social gathering.  Parents had an opportunity to mingle with other ABTE families, enjoy some breakfast snacks, and read some of the excellent written publications that students made during last week's Publishing Day.  Thanks to Ms. Dewar and the Parent-Teacher Committee (PTC) for hosting this event.

ABTE students took part in the annual Student Publishing Day.  Each student brought in their best written work and "published" their completed work by designing & decorating the cover and binding it.  Parents will have an opprtunity to view these completed projects either during "MUffins with Moms / Donuts with Dads" on May 15, or in their child's classroom.  Once again, students put a lot of work into their projects and a lot of creativity was shown.  Thank you to the RtI Team for their work in planning, organizing, and conducting this activity: Mrs. Larkins, Mrs. Peppers, Mrs. Cote, and Mrs. Tarrant.  Check out the Publishing Day pictures in the Photo Gallery (click here).

Thank you to all the students, parents, and teachers who worked to make this year's Science Fair a success.  Participation in the Science Fair is mandatory for all students in grades 3-5.  There were many interesting, thoughtful, and innovative projects turned in this year.  Projects cover three different curriculum assessments, so they play a big part of the 4th Marking Period grades.  Thank you also to those who volunteered to judge the projects!

All students at the Academy for Business & Technology Elementary School (ABTE) will be taking the new Iowa Assessment (IA), as a requirement of academies authorized by Eastern Michigan University.  The IA is the replacement for the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), and is aligned with the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The IA covers all core content material.

We look forward to this opportunity for ABTE students to demonstrate all that they have learned throughout the year.

To help promote eating a healthy and nutrious breakfast each day, ABTE sponsored a Healthy Breakfast Contest.  Several students and their families took part in this activity which is aimed at spreading the word that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day -- and that a healthy body is essential for a healthy mind.  There were three different contest levels for each grade span:  Milk Mustache Photo Contest (grades K-1); Healthy Breakfast Poster Contest (grades 2-3); and Healthy Breakfast Poetry Contest (grades 4-5).  Thank you to Mr. Young for organizing this activity and for the students who submitted items to be judged.
